My Doctor Suspects a Cerebral Aneurysm...
Why do I need a Brain MRI?
A cerebral or brain aneurysm is a “ballooning” of a segment of an artery in the brain. An MRI exam is one tool used to find and evaluate aneurysms in your brain or other parts of the body. A special process called Magnetic Resonance (MR) Angiography is used to best visualize blood vessels’ and any aneurysms that they might have. MR Angiograms are sometimes performed with contrast media to enhance the diagnostic quality of the scan. Your doctor and the radiologists will work together to decide if contrast media is required. Special blood tests may be required before your exam, especially if you have a history of diabetes, kidney or liver disease, or if you are someone over the age of 50.
Our radiologists at the Cleveland Clinic, recently rated one of top hospitals in the country, are committed to providing you and your doctor with the most accurate diagnosis available. In the case of a brain MRI, that means only a dedicated Neuroradiologist (a radiologist that has undergone specialized training in the field of neurology and has passed a board examination in Neuroradiology) will interpret your exam. Comparison to any prior advanced imaging studies will be required to fully evaluate your condition. Click here to learn more about our radiology team.
