Lou Gehrig's Disease

My Doctor thinks I may have Lou Gehrig's Disease...

Why do I need a Brain MRI?

If your doctor has recommended a brain MRI to rule out Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), which is more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, you likely understand the importance of an accurate diagnosis. At Smart Choice MRI, we want to assure you that we’ll provide you with exceptional service and value at this important time.

Unlike an x-ray, a brain MRI clearly demonstrates the soft tissues and structures of the brain. The images provided by an MRI may offer your physician valuable, time-sensitive information about symptoms typical of ALS. A contrast enhanced MRI will likely be ordered by your physician. For patients over the age of 50 or those with kidney or liver disease, a series of lab tests may be needed prior to your exam.

Our radiologists at the Cleveland Clinic, recently rated one of top hospitals in the country, are committed to providing you and your doctor with the most accurate diagnosis available. In the case of a brain or cervical MRI, that means only a dedicated Neuroradiologist (a radiologist that has undergone specialized training in the field of neurology and has passed a board examination in Neuroradiology) will interpret your exam. Comparison to any prior advanced imaging studies will be required to fully evaluate your condition. Click here to learn more about our radiology team.
