Q: Do I have a choice about where to have my MRI performed?

Choice - State Law supports your right to choose your MRI provider.

If you broke your back, would you seek out the best orthopedic Spine surgeon?  Of course you would!  Your MRI scan is no different.  You should consider your MRI provider very carefully and make a choice as to which provider best fits your needs.

-Are their radiologists sub-specialized in the body part you are having scanned?

  -Are they conveniently located?

-Do they have same/next day scheduling for quick scheduling?

-Are they covered by my insurance plan?

Q: Do MRIs cost the same at different facilities?

Imaging Costs vary depending on where you go.

Independent MRI centers cost on average 25%-30% less than hospital based MRI services.  If you have a high deductible, co-pay or co-insurance, this could have a significant impact on your out-of-pocket expenses.  Unlike most MRI providers, at Smart Choice MRI, we openly share our cost for every patient, just $600!  Our costs are on average 75% below the Wisconsin state average, saving you hundreds of dollars in out-of-pocket expenses. When choosing an MRI provider, make sure you ask about cost so you understand how much your out-of-pocket costs will be.

Q: Should I be concerned about the quality of the MRI center?

Quality is key.

Because there is such a vast number of MRI scanners and capabilities, choosing the right MRI provider based on quality as a patient is hard.  There are however, several ways to make sure that the quality is acceptable for your MRI scan.

-Ask if the MRI clinic is accredited by the American College of Radiologists (ACR), a national organization which accredits providers who meet rigorous strict quality criteria.  If a clinic is ACR accredited, you can rest assured that you and your physician will be provided with the appropriate results from your scan.  All of Smart Choice MRI's clinics have received the ACR accredidation.

-Our MRI technologists are also put under appropriate testing to assure their capabilities.  All of Smart Choice MRI's technologists have passed a national certification examination in their specialty with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (AART).

-There are two different types of MRI scanners; high field closed and low field open.  The closed MRIs are always preferred by physicians because they take superior images, however, open MRIs are ideal for claustrophobic and heavier patients.
